The past week has been a week of emotional ups and downs as we experienced the another anniversary of the date of our beloved Pappa. That was an extreme emotional low for our entire family. However; we have also experienced pure joy and love the complete opposite emotion as our family was blessed with a new baby, born on August 14 at 7:21 am. She is absolutely beautiful but there were many scares during the labor and delivery process with both Annacarmie and the baby.
Problems began several weeks before as Annacarmie began experiencing symptoms that caused great concern. Because of that Dr. Johnson kept a close watch on her. On Tuesday he sent her to the hospital for a non stress test because of traces of protein. Several hours later he decided to let her go home. That night and the following morning she continued feeling worse; therefore, Wednesday morning we were back in the hospital. It was then Dr. J decided to keep her. There was more protein and her blood pressure continued to rise. A magnesium drip was started to try to lower the blood pressure and oxytocin to start active labor. The blood pressure continued to rise and no visitors were allowed in the room. For the remainder of the day and night she could have no stimulation so we were in a dark room with no noise or tv. The condition did not improve over the night and labor was going to be a long process because of the counteractive effects of magnesium and oxytocin.
At 7:21 am a beautiful baby girl, Makenna Kate was delivered however, we were not out of the woods yet. That delivery was not without trauma to Annacarmie and the baby. Makenna was a good size baby bad she had a shoulder disphlia because of the difficult coming through the birth canal but it was nothing that should have stressed her as it did. It was twenty minutes before they were able to get Makenna to breathe. Not only was I worried Dr. J was also because they were bagging her trying to get her to breathe. Her pediatrician was not at the hospital so they called any ped in the building. Finally Dr. Scott got her to breathing on hr own while a nurse was preparing for intubation. Her heart rate from birth was 120 and she pinked up rather quickly she just did not breathe. Dr.Googe can in then and took her ti NICU to access her health.
Annacarmie did not get to see Makenna Kate until the next morning because Makenna was in NICU and Annacarmie was still on bed rest with an IV of magnesium. Mamma Kim was allowed to go into the NICU on Thursday night and make pictures for Annacarmie to see her baby.
The entire day while Makenna Kate was in NICU she was very lethargic but Dr. Googe reassured us it was because of the amount of magnesium that crossed the placenta before delivery and we had no choice in that. The magnesium acted like a giant sleeping pill for the baby. It took several days for that to get out of her system. She also was having problems with apnea and had to be hooked up to a monitor for a least 24 hours. After being removed they brought her to the room for Annacamire to see. She still had an IV in her foot and several bruises from the stress at birth and the trauma.
Not only was this very difficult for Annacarmie to not be able to see her baby it was my baby lying in that hospital bed with several issues even after delivery that did not clear up.
At 38 weeks pregnant and conditions of pre-eclampsia multiplying rapidly Dr. Johnson took great care to provide the greatest safety fro his patient. Any mother who has a daughter in that position appreciated a doctor who does not let the conditions progress before intervening.
God is a great God that answers prayers and takes care of His children. Thank you Lord for your peace that passes all understanding.
